PRELIMINARY BACKGROUND APPLICATION – Police Officer
(Rev 03/2022)

Instructions to the Applicant

The information you provide in this Preliminary Background Application will be used in the background investigation to assist in determining your suitability for the position of City of Los Santos Police Officer, in accordance with San Andreas POST Commission Regulation 1953.
  • • It is your responsibility to complete this form and provide all required information.

    • This document must be filled out electronically and printed.

    • You must respond to all items and questions. If a question does not apply to you, write “DNA” (does not apply) in the space provided.

    • Send the completed form to your background investigator or the department. Do NOT send the form to POST.

(( Your application must be titled "Firstname Lastname. ))

(( Your answers should only replace the fields that say "Answer." It should not extend outside the color code box. ))

(( Do not edit the application format in any way. You may add additional fields to any area or questions or replace hyperlinks with DNA. ))

(( You may be non-select if your application is put on "Pending" status more than twice for formatting issues or missing questions. This is also the case in character. ))

(( Upon completion of this application, your character will undergo a 'psychological evaluation'. This is entirely an NPC process. It is your responsibility to inform the Personnel and Training Division if your psychological evaluation fails or shows any concerns. ))

Disqualification

There are very few automatic bases for rejection. Even issues of prior misconduct, such as prior illegal drug use, driving under the influence, theft, or even arrest or conviction are usually not, in and of themselves, automatically disqualifying. However, deliberate misstatements or omissions can and often will result in your application being rejected, regardless of the nature or reason for the misstatements/omissions. In fact, the number one reason individuals “fail” background investigations is because they deliberately withhold or misrepresent job-relevant information from their prospective employer.

  • Spoiler: show
Marvin Pomar was born and raised in one of the roughest Hispanic neighborhoods of Los Santos. He was the oldest son of four siblings, living in a small and cheap monthly rent housing room. Both of his parents were of half Mexican descent. Marvin’s father, Miguel Martinez, was a known ragged member of the neighborhood’s gangster, and her mother, Audrey Reyes was an ordinary Hispanic girl who got hooked on a charisma and charm of a local gangster. Marvin was a pure accident of his father and mother’s late night rendezvous, but they ended up keeping the infant and it turned out, they decided to have more than a child. The family continued and they were doing fine without marriage.

Even though Miguel had killed people, sold drugs, and done horrible things we couldn’t even imagine outside of the house, he was a good father for his children and a good partner for his significant other. He never laid a finger on his wife, never did to his kids too, he loved his family like no other. But the sunshines and rainbows didn’t last long. Miguel was finally caught red-handed killing a number rival gang members in south central Los Santos. He was driving a 90s Toyota Corola alongside a few of his gang members who pulled it off with him and keeping some of their handguns inside the glove compartment. Marvin’s father eventually left the family with a pair of cuffs fastened to his wrists and never came back. Marvin’s mother, Audrey, took the role as the head of the family. She went the extra mile to make ends meet for her family.

Not only struggling to deal with his financial matters, Marvin Pomar also struggled dealing with what surrounded him, his neighborhood locals. The bigger he grew, the wider his eyes opened, he witnessed worse than he did when he was nine. He saw more murders, more gunshots toward one another, more physical and verbal violence, more deaths caused by drug overdoses and more kids of his age got pulled into the world of gangsters when he eventually turned sixteen. What was more suffocating for Marvin was that his fourteen year old brother was secretly a member of a tag-banging crew and a small time drug dealer for his local gang, he died due to a rival gang’s drive-by shots. Marvin had none of these ideas, but it all sank into his head when he was told by a friend at the funeral. Marvin always blamed the cruelty of the gang infested neighborhood. Ever since, he became more strict as a person. In order to survive, he strived to take care of his two remaining sisters while his mother came home once in three days.

Marvin eventually finished high school and due to his outstanding pitching skill in baseball that brought trophies and reputation to his school, he simply got recruited by the youth training camp of LS Dodgers to train youth baseball players before getting into the bush league. Marvin developed a father-and-son relationship with a senior coach, John Hanks, who didn’t have the same background, but had to deal with similar circumstances in the past. John always knew there was something inside Marvin, an urge to make things better, to set things right, John knew this kid inside out like a father did. Marvin was a very great coach and colleague in his line of work, every coach vouched for him to get inducted into the bush league and leave the training camp as soon as possible to pursue the career of a baseball player, but on the other side, he never felt good about himself in every way.

There was one night when John Hanks asked Marvin Pomar to pay a visit to his home for a dinner with his family, and this conversation finally came up. John told Marvin that he needed a redemption, not in a horrible way, but in a way that it could help other people as well as it helped himself. Marvin asked John about what did he mean by helping other people and helping himself. John began to look Marvin in the eyes and told him that he had a friend who was a police officer. John got told by the friend that most police officers in LS grew up in a rough neighborhood, many of them were seeking redemption in a good way as well, and he let Pomar know that. John elaborated that Marvin had the physique, he had the mentality, he had the intelligence, both emotionally and intellectually, and the most importantly he had the reason. He would make a good cop by that. He didn’t push Marvin, he just tried to help Marvin be better. A few weeks after the dinner, Tulsa Drillers, LS Dodger’s minor league affiliate, wanted Marvin Pomar to play in their team and sign him up right away. But it was an unlucky day for the bush league team, because in the same day, Marvin Pomar had resigned from the youth training camp to pursue a career as a law enforcement officer.
