Disqualification

There are very few automatic bases for rejection. Even issues of prior misconduct, such as prior illegal drug use, driving under the influence, theft, or even arrest or conviction are usually not, in and of themselves, automatically disqualifying. However, deliberate misstatements or omissions can and often will result in your application being rejected, regardless of the nature or reason for the misstatements/omissions. In fact, the number one reason individuals “fail” background investigations is because they deliberately withhold or misrepresent job-relevant information from their prospective employer.

    Charles Grijalva comes from a family whose ancestors moved from Mexico to California several generations ago. They settled there to build a better life. Charles personally was a decent student; he didn't get much attention from his parents. That resulted in his small steps into gang activity with a small Sureños gang that was near the Grijalva family house. Charles didn't use violence in the gang; that way, he didn't get any records from LE agencies. You could tell that Grijalva was a tag-banger, but he didn't want to join the structures of the gang. He was pleased with spraying on walls of the neighborhood; that didn't last long. Other gang members wanted to test the loyalty of young Grijalva (16 y/o); he had to take part in a brawl with a hostile gang. When Charles arrived with others on enemy turf, he was a bit stressed; it didn't take long. A brawl started, and the gang that Grijalva “was” part of started winning the fight, and then one of the enemy bangers pulled out a gun. For us, the next 10 minutes were like hell. Grijalva had been shot twice, and sudden pain resulted in Charles losing consciousness. The rest of the group escaped from hostile turf; Charles was also beaten on top of that. The local LEA responded to the shots and served help to young Grijalva. He survived, but in time the wounds changed into scars that left a sign on Grijalva's psyche. After that, Charles stopped all his connections related to the gang and started paying attention to lessons, which resulted in better grades. Grijalva wants to help others, like local peacemakers did.
